About the Item

A Fine George II Style Silver Plated Warwick Cruet. The cinquefoil tray having a tall central handle with a leaf and figurative grip above a frame with a rococo armorial cartouche. It is raised on four leaf capped scroll legs with shell cast feet. The frame is fitted with two baluster form casters with pierced covers each on a collet foot, a silver lidded flask and a pair of silver mounted glass bottles. The casters and silver flask each embossed and chased with ‘C’-scrolls and foliate motifs, the glass cruet bottles correspondingly wheel engraved. Silver Cruet sets comprise of the cruet stand, and a number of cruet bottles for serving liquid condiments, like oil, vinegar and soy. Additionally they often hold casters for spices such as pepper or dry mustard. The ‘Warwick Cruet’, takes its name from that one realized by Anthony Nelme in 1715 for the 1st Earl of Warwick comprising two glass cruet bottles a large silver sugar caster and two smaller casters for pepper and mustard held within a cinquefoil frame. English, Circa 1880.
