Georgian Sterling Silver Cream Jug by Henry Chawner
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George III English sterling silver cream jug made by Henry Chawner; an addition to our Georgian silver teaware collection.
This exceptional antique George III sterling silver cream jug by Henry Chawner has a circular rounded form onto a pedestal with a circular spreading foot and square base.
The upper portion of the body is ornamented with a band of bright cut engraved arched decoration with alternating leaf designs to the lower portion, emanating from the pedestal.
The rim of the body is encompassed with an applied reed decorated border.
This fine example of Georgian silverware is fitted with a narrow loop handle ornamented with plain applied moulded decoration.
The underside of the spout is ornamented with bright cut engraved batwing style fluted decoration.
The surface of the reed decorated foot and square base are embellished with further bright cut engraved and pin struck leaf motifs and simple paralleling border.
This highly desirable antique cream jug was crafted by the renowned and collectable London silversmiths Henry Chawner.
Condition
This antique cream jug by Henry Chawner is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.
The bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp.
Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the base are all very clear.
Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this example of Georgian silver.

This inkstand is encompassed with an applied thread decorated border, in addition to the contemporary engraved initials 'WW'. The rim of the body of the sterling silver inkstand is ornamented with a paralleling applied reed decorated border. The internal wirework style frame of the stand is divided into three rounded supports. Each internal compartment retains the original rounded glass bottles with cut glass ornamentation in addition to impressive scalloped bases. The ink, pen/quill and pounce bottles retain the original plain silver cylindrical mounts fitted with push fit hallmarked covers. The rim of each circular cover is encircled with applied moulded borders and bears the corresponding functional pierced decorated holes.
