There may be items on the 1stdibs site that look and feel the same, but the items selected by Brood are unique. These items date from the mid-Edo period in Japan. Negoro is one of the Japanese lacquerware painting methods. It is characterized by the application of black lacquer on the wooden base, followed by red lacquer. It originated from lacquerware used by monks at a temple called Negoroji. In the Edo period, it was made in large quantities and many temples used this Negoro lacquerware on a daily basis. It is thought that this item was also used in temples. After repeated use, the black lacquer becomes visible. Japanese people have always loved Negoro lacquerware because they felt this was wabi-sabi. However, this will not be in such a state unless it is used for a long time. This is very cool because the black lacquer is visible on the front and edges. It's hard to get a tray with such a good atmosphere. This is rare. In addition, since the same kind of product was published in the art book, the photograph is posted. Also, since it is very old, there are gaps in the three corners. This is caused by the shrinkage of the wood. However, there is no problem with the strength of the tray. Also, it is in good condition with no warping. It is a very good tray that makes you feel wabi-sabi. Highly recommended! Also, I want many people to know the goodness of antiques, so I set the price reasonably.
