Pinder, Bourne & Co. Sauce Tureen on Stand
About the Item
This Pinder, Bourne & Co. sauce tureen on stand could also be listed as Doulton Burslem, as Doulton had purchased Pinder, Bourne & Co. in 1878 and this piece is dated September 1881. The Pinder Bourne name was used until 1882 when it became Doulton Burslem. The lid of this attractive sauce tureen is decorated with a hand coloured printed scene of a boy lying in a field playing a flute, with two butterflies flying above him. The body is decorated by gilding and a printed pattern, whilst the stand has half a dozen coloured butterflies and insects. Its condition is very good, with some rubbing of the gilding, a small chip to the inside rim and a very minor chip to one handle. The overall height (including the stand) is 138 mm (5.5 inches) with the stand being 230 mm (9 inches) long and 152 mm (6 inches) wide.
