About the Item

A fine and impressive pair of antique Russian silver and polychrome cloisonné enamel salts; an addition to cruet and condiment collection. These fine antique Russian silver salts have a circular tapering form, onto a circular collet base. The surface of these Russian salts are embellished with fine and impressive cloisonné scrolling foliate designs using various tones of blue, red, green and white sections of polychrome enamel, all on a matte gilded background. The enamel designs are encompassed with applied silver paralleling rope twist ornamentation. The upper and lower rims are further accented with paralleling bands of white enamel circular motifs. The anterior and interior surfaces of these antique salts retain the original gilding. The hallmarks to the underside of these Russian antique salts include: Maker's Mark: B.A* Silver quality/purity mark: 84 (84 zolotniks**) City Mark: St George slaying the dragon (Moscow, Russia) *This maker could be either Vasily Andreyev or Vasily Akimov **84 zolotniki is equivalent to 875/1000 or .875 standard silver Condition These Russian antique salts are a very good gauge of silver, excellent quality and in excellent condition in keeping with age. The original gilding has wear in keeping with age. The enamel is in perfect condition. The Russian hallmarks struck to the underside of each salt are all very clear. The bowl of the tea strainer is embellished with a pierced concentric circular design, encircled with Dual bands of white enamel bead motifs to the rim. The tapering handle is embellished with an impressive cloisonné enamel floral and foliate design in tones of blue and green, accented with further bands of white enamel circular motifs encompassing the concave thumb piece. This exceptional antique Russian silver gilt beaker has a cylindrical, tapering form. The surface of this antique beaker is embellished with a fine niello enamel scene depicting a structural rooftop skyline behind a towered brick wall, incorporating cloud designs on the matte textured upper portion.
