About the Item

Exceptional knife rests set, Louis XVI decoration adorned with pine cones and flowers. It is even rarer to see full service of 12 pieces of French sterling silver. These objects are usually made of silverplate. It is especially important to note the weight and very high quality of these pieces. No monograms. Head of Minerve 1 st titre for 950/1000 French sterling silver guarantee. Prestigious silversmith: Aucoc 6 rue de la Paix, Paris Aucoc family was active from 1821 to 1932. Known for high-quality workmanship, Aucoc was a jeweler and silversmith leader of the Art Nouveau. The Aucoc family firm was protected by the House of King Louis-Philippe, the House of the Duke of Orleans, the Emperor Napoleon III and his wife Empress Eugenie. The shop is mentioned in the first chapter of The Lady of the Camellias (French : La Dame aux camélias, published in 1848). Gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1889 in Paris and Silver medal in 1878. Grand Prizes at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris and again in Saint Louis in North America in 1904. Silver medal at the "Expostion des Produits de l'industrie francaise" of 1839 in Paris (Predecessor to the Universal Exhibitions) and another in silver medal in 1844. First class medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1855 in Paris, another medal in 1867 in Paris. From 1874 to 1876, René Lalique was an apprentice to Aucoc.
