About the Item

This is a truly striking and rare antique Victorian cased set of six luxury sterling silver salt cellars with spoons, 1882 in date. This magnificent set is made by the renowned Victorian silversmiths, Horace Woodward & Co, Birmingham, and retailed by the equally renowned firm, George Edward & Sons, of London and Glasgow. Each salt cellar is a charming round shape with a beautifully embossed fluted body, raised dotted rim, and standing on three gorgeous ball feet. Each salt cellar has the original gilded interior to resist corrosion. The set is complete with it's six original and fully hallmarked sterling silver spoons, which are simple and elegant in design. It is housed in a sumptuous leather round box with magenta silk and velvet lining. Each piece bears full hallmarks - Lion passant for sterling silver, the anchor for Birmingham, letter 'g' for 1882, and makers' mark 'H.W. & Co' for Horace Woodward & Co. The box also bears the retailer' stamp 'Geo. Edward & Sons, N.1 Poultry London & 92 Buchanan St. Glasgow'. This set would definitely enhance your dining experience as well as make a beautiful gift.
