English Solid Sterling Silver Large Sugar Castor Hallmarked:-SHEFFIELD 1926

About the Item

Sterling silver large English sugar castor A full set of English hallmarks applied by the Sheffield Assay Office:- Crown - Sheffield Assay office mark. Lion - Sterling guarantee mark i - Date letter for Sheffield 1926 P.A & S - Maker`s mark. (applied by the maker) A superb, large, baluster shaped castor in wonderful condition, with no dents or scratches, despite being 97 years old. Decorated round the top and mid-section with tulip heads that look almost like crow`s feet. The top, pierced and with similar decoration, and with an oval lift. Mounted on a stepped trumpet base. Measures: Height:- 172 millimetres / 6.77 inches. Weight:- 196 grams / 6.30 troy ounces. I recommend that when you replace the top after filling; rotate the top as if screwing up, until you find the tightest point.
