Georg Jensen by Rohde Sterling Silver Coffee/ Tea Pot in Cosmos Pattern 45A

About the Item

Magnificent sterling silver tea pot by the famous Danish maker, Georg Jensen in the highly desirable Cosmos pattern designed by Johan Rohde with wooden handle. Measuring approximately 10 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches form handle to spout. Weighing 21 troy ounces. Bearing hallmarks as shown. Georg Jensen, a Danish silversmith, set up his own silver business in 1904 in Copenhagen. Jensen's training in metalsmithing along with his education in the fine arts allowed him to combine the two disciplines and revive the tradition of the artist craftsman. Soon, the beauty and quality of his creations caught the eye of the public and his success was assured. The Copenhagen quarters were greatly expanded and before the end of the 1920s, Jensen had opened retail in Berlin (1909), London (1921), and New York (1924).

    By Georg Jensen
    Located in New York, NY
Georg Jensen by J. Rohde sterling silver charger/ dinner plate in celebrated Acorn pattern number 642A. It measures 11'' in diameter by 3/4'', weighs 22.2 troy ounces, and bears hallmarks as shown. Johan Rohde hailed from a wealthy family and studied medicine prior to enrolling in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1882. A forward-thinking, anti-establishment artist, he left after less than a year, disillusioned by their refusal to accept modern trends. Rohde possessed a tireless creative mind and, in addition to painting and drawing, was also a lithographer, graphic artist, bookbinder, and designer. He embraced the Scandinavian design movement which, similar to the Arts & Crafts movement in America, encouraged the application of artistic sensibility to everyday objects. Rohde designed furniture and silverware for his own home, which led him to commission Georg Jensen to execute one of his hollowware designs. The collaboration was so successful that they continued working together, with Rohde designing and Jensen...

  • Meissen Porcelain Dinner Service, 189 Pieces
    By Meissen Porcelain
    Located in New Orleans, LA
Comprising an incredible 189 pieces, this impressive Meissen porcelain dinner service is an exceptional example of the firm's prized dinnerware. The bodies are crafted in the New Brandenstein relief pattern designed by Johann Friedrich Eberlein in 1744, which gives this service a distinct Rococo feel. The hand-painted enamel detailing is known as the Flowers and Insects motif and is executed with stunning vibrancy and intricacy. Since each piece is executed entirely by hand, no two pieces bear the exact same adornments.

Similar, single dining pieces are featured in Meissen Domestic Porcelain by Günther Sterba, 1991, figures 83 through 86.

The pieces bear the Meissen blue crossed swords that date this service between 1850/60-1924.
