George Adams Victorian 1870s Sterling Silver Goblet
About the Item
An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver goblet made by George Adams; an addition to our collection of wine and drinks related silverware
This exceptional antique sterling silver goblet has a circular bell shaped form onto a knopped stem and circular spreading foot.
The body of this Victorian goblet is encompassed with bright cut engraved interlacing strap work featuring four cascading arabesque motifs and scrolling leaf ornamentation to the upper rim.
The decoration to the body incorporates four quatrefoil shaped cartouches conjoined by interlacing strapwork; two feature impressive designs of floral and leaf decorated sprays and the remaining two are vacant.
The lower portion features four stylized leaf motifs to the incurves of the aforementioned cartouches.
The plain waisted pedestal features a plain circular knop to the centre.
The foot is ornamented with further bright cut engraved interlacing strapwork accented with simplified leaf motifs.
This exceptional silver goblet retains the original gilded interior.
This impressive example of Victorian silverware was crafted by the renowned London silversmith George Adams of Chawner & Co.
Condition
This antique Victorian goblet is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the goblet are all very clear.

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver goblet; an addition to our collection of wine and drinks related silverware
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver goblet has a circular bell shaped form onto a knopped stem and circular spreading foot.
The body of this 1870s silver goblet is embellished with bright cut engraved foliate festoons accented with pensile leaf drops; these vertical designs form four cartouches.
The cartouche to one side bears a bright cut engraved fruit design; the further three remain vacant.
The knopped stem is encircled with a plain moulded border to the centre.
The foot is ornamented with further bright cut engraved overlapping arch designs, accented with an applied bead decorated border to the rim.
Condition
This antique 1870s silver goblet is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The goblet has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp and the applied ornamentation is very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the goblet are all very clear.

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique English sterling silver straight Military Thread & Shell pattern flatware service made by George Adams; an addition to our flatware collection.
The pieces of this exceptional, antique Victorian straight sterling silver canteen of cutlery has been crafted in the Military Thread and Shell pattern.
The surface of each handle is embellished with a paralleling thread decorated border accented with a shell design to the terminal.
The reverse of each spoon bowl is ornamented with a thread decorated rounded heel.
This Military Thread and Shell pattern cutlery set consists of 109 pieces:

21 teaspoons

The pieces of this service have been crafted by the collectable, renowned silversmith and flatware maker George Adams of Chawner & Co in 1863; eleven of the dessert spoons bear a subtly different size to the remaining twelve, this does not detract from the service.
This antique flatware service is supplied in felt cutlery rolls; which not only protect the items in storage but significantly reduces tarnishing.
Note: Due to the nature of this service it can be determined it was made for military use. Each piece would have been embellished with an engraved crest which has since been removed; there remains minor signs of the engraving to some pieces.
"Straight" means all the pieces are made by the same maker in the same year.
Condition
This thread and shell pattern cutlery set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. Each piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. The pattern decoration has sympathetic wear in keeping with age and use. Each piece shows minor signs of an erased engraved crest. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse of each piece are all very clear; there is some wear to some marks, in keeping with age.
