About the Item

Mario Buccellati's 925 sterling silver figurine of a squirrel Made in Italy, circa 1950s Fully hallmarked. Mario Buccellati's sterling silver sculpture of a squirrel holding a nut may have many metaphorical connotations depending on the location and the individual interpreting the artwork. Squirrels are typically associated with the concept of resourcefulness because of their capacity to harvest and store food for the winter months. They are also viewed as fun, energetic, and nimble creatures, and may reflect the concept of adaptability and vibrancy. The squirrel's nut may also have symbolic meaning. Nuts are frequently associated with the concepts of sustenance and food, and they may symbolise the significance of gathering and saving resources for the future. Nuts are also viewed as symbols of wisdom and knowledge in various cultures, and may reflect the idea of seeking and attaining information. The sculpture's sterling silver construction may contribute to its symbolic value, as silver is generally connected with purity, clarity, and reflection. It may reflect the concept of refinement and elegance, as well as a sense of value and significance. Overall, Mario Buccellati's sterling silver sculpture of a squirrel holding a nut may symbolise resourcefulness, agility, and adaptability, as well as the need of gathering and saving resources for the future. Dimensions: Length: 17.3 cm Width: 11.5 cm Height: 9.5 cm Total weight: 178 grams Condition: General usage, minor signs of usage, excellent and pleasant condition overall. The Prince of Goldsmiths, as the Italian designer Mario Buccellati (1891-1965) was affectionately known, had an early and abiding interest in precious metals, gems, and the Renaissance. His amazing mix of these three sources of creativity resulted in his own distinctive style, which helped the brand grow to become a household name in Italian jewellery. Opening its first store in Milan on Via degli Orefici that same year, 1919, Buccellati made its international debut in 1951 when it opened a shop on Fifth Avenue in New York. Upon the passing of their father in 1966, Gianmaria Buccellati (1929-2015) and his brother Luca took over the family business.
