Thomas Callow & Son Antique Sterling Silver Paper Knife

About the Item

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver paper knife; an addition to our silver flatware collection. This exceptional antique English sterling silver paper knife has a plain tapering blade. This antique paper knife / letter opener is embellished with a cast and applied terminal realistically modelled in the form of a fox's head. The terminal is embellished with details reproducing the fine definition of the fox's fur and facial features. The head is further ornamented with cabochon set ruby eyes. The surface of the blade is plain and unembellished, apart from the full hallmarks to the posterior surface. This impressive paper knife if the finest example of its type you could hope to acquire and such large examples are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. Condition This antique paper knife is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The cast decoration is all very sharp. Full hallmarks struck to the reverse surface of the blade are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver. This impressive sterling silver claret jug has an ovoid form onto a circular domed foot. The body of the jug is embellished with a fine and impressive chased tapering swag design incorporating large graduating convex ovoid bead decoration amidst a shaped paralleling border with trefoil motifs on a matte background. The tapering cylindrical neck flares to the shaped rim, which is ornamented with an applied bead decorated border. The neck of the jug is encircled with bead decoration flanking a broad band of chased decoration reflecting the identical design to that of the swag decoration. The circular spreading foot to each item and upper portion of each goblet are embellished with a circular convex bead decorated border in addition to a band of bead ornamentation to the rim and knop. This exceptional antique George V sterling silver dish has a plain oval boat shaped form. The body of this impressive English silver bread dish is embellished with bands of fine and impressive pierced vertical pale decoration, flanking oval floral medallions. The ornamentation to the body incorporates bright cut engraved floral and foliate festoons, suspended from the aforementioned medallion designs. The upper rim of the dish is encompassed with a paralleling applied thread decorated border. The well of this fine example of antique silverware is plain and unembellished.     A fine and impressive pair of antique Victorian English sterling silver sparrow beak style creamers, boxed; an addition to our silver teaware collection. These impressive antique Victorian sterling silver cream jugs have a plain baluster sparrow beak style form onto a circular spreading foot. The body of each jug is embellished to one side with two impressive bright cut engraved crests, a stag's head erased and a thistle erect, leaved below the motto ‘Yvery’. The jugs are fitted with opposing scroll handles, each ornamented with a subtle plain thumb piece. These impressive antique cream jugs have sparrow beak style spouts.
