Victorian Period Set of 8 Sterling Silver-Handled Shell Pattern Knives

About the Item

Victorian Period set of 8 sterling silver-handled dinner knives (having silver-plated blades), London, year-hallmarked for 1865, George William Adams - maker. Sterling silver handles are decorated with an etched armorial of a raised arm holding a shank bone (see photos). A shell also decorates the end of each knife handle. Stamped on the original silver-plated blades is the name of the blade makers - Joseph Rodgers and Sons, Cutlers to Her Majesty (Queen Victoria). The blades are also stamped with Queen Victoria's cypher --V crown R. Each knife measures 11 inches long x 1 inch deep x 1 inch high when (lying flat). Some minor very dints to the sterling handles (see photos) commensurate with age and use; silver plated blades are in very good antique condition, with one blade having some minor pitting on its end area commensurate with age and use (see photos). Dark areas in photos are reflections. As a whole, the set is in very good antique condition.
