This fine antique Edwardian sterling silver sugar caster has a baluster form onto a circular domed spreading foot. The upper and lower portions of this piece are embellished with embossed and chased bead and scroll decoration accenting concave bordered, fluted decoration all in a spiral design. The sugar caster retains the original hallmarked screw fit cover, embellished with pierced decoration incorporating chased and embossed bead and scroll decoration, the screw fit attachment indicates the fine quality of this piece. The cover is further ornamented with a gadroon decorated border to the rim and is surmounted by a fine and impressive scroll decorated shaped baluster style finial. The lower half of the main body is decorated with raised vertical flutes. The upper section displays a horizontal girdle flanked by semi-circular motifs and an upper band of punched foliate motifs. This fine piece has a slightly everted reeded rim and a scroll reeded handle. The Mug is of a very good weight and gauge and is fully marked on the side of the main body in the patterning.
