Antique Signed Satsuma Teapot Fujiware no Teika, Late 19th/Early 20th Century

About the Item

A lovely Satsuma Teapot. Marked on body and lid + pot rims. So, the teapot depicts the author Fujiwara no Teika (the text to the right reads, "Counselor Teika"), who lived in the 13th century. The calligraphy is the first three rows of one of his poems (with a slightly different spelling). It is written in old Japanese, and not really readable to the average Japanese, I think. I was lucky to find a translation to English, so I can't take the credit for that. Konu hito o Matsuho no ura no Yunagi ni Yaku ya moshio no Mi mo kogare tsutsu. Like the salt sea-weed, Burning in the evening calm. On Matsuo's shore, All my being is aflame, Awaiting her who does not come.
