Danish Studio Ceramic Teapot with Cream and Sugar Set by Gutte Eriksen 1980s

About the Item

Set with teapot, creamer and sugar bowl by Danish ceramist Gutte Eriksen (1918-2008). Made ca. 1980s in her own studio. The shapes are simple and the main decorative expression lies in the vivid glaze and the small stylized flower decors on the teapot. The teapot is signed with "Gutte". Gutte Eriksen (1918-2008) was educated at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts (Kunsthåndværkerskolen) in Copenhagen in 1936-39 and got her own workshop in 1941/42. Great influence on her ceramic language had a stay at the workshop of ceramist Bernard Leach in Saint Ives in England in 1948 and at Japanese ceramic workshops in 1970 and 1973. From 1968 to 1978 she periodically teached at the Art Academy in Aarhus (Jysk Kunstakademi) and influenced a whole generation of Danish ceramists.
