Jean Luce’s Coffee and Tea set Rectangle Model Created in France 1932 Cream Glazed Earthenware
This iconic avant garde Art Deco tableware was created by the famous French designer and manufacturer Jean Luce in 1932.
This Jean Luce’s set is a perfect example of his unique style, with their light, linear graphics.
A rare model very sought after and shown on the front cover of an excellent book that came out last year:
‘Jean Luce et le renouveau de la table française 1910-1960’.
The model name is Rectangle, architectural and combines rectangle and circle forms in a clever harmonious contrasting way.
The glazed earthenware has this chic cream colouring that was special to Jean Luce, and the forms never seen before, timeless and practical.
This rare set comprises one tea pot, one milk jug, one sugar bowl, three large cups and saucers and 6 small cups and saucers.
All pieces of the Rectangle design are unique, very creative, sleek and simple, which always prove to be the most difficult to invent.
All pieces are signed.
Overall in good condition with some small chips shown on pictures.
JEAN LUCE (1895-1964), a member of the UAM movement, worked on the balance between form and function in the glassware and ceramics he produced for his Paris shop, for Compagnie Générale Transatlantique among other famous references.
His constant concern was for purity, refinement and rationalism.

It is the Indian Ferns model, Fougères Indiennes in French, dating between 1919 and 1929 which we can tell from A. Lanternier & Co Limoges with the red star marks on all pieces.
The set comprises twenty seven pieces composed of eight coffee cups and saucers, four large coffee or tea cups and saucers, tea pot, milk jug and sugar pot.
Shiny and transparent white porcelain with outstanding workmanship on the forms of all pieces of the set. The relief of the whole surface of the thin plates is remarkable. This server ware is a real gem of the luxury porcelain that Alfred Lanternier was renown for worldwide in high society and royal courts. A. Lanternier won a Gold Medal in 1925 at the International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, and this set was produced during that era.
