Set of 12 Vintage Bavaria Cups and Saucers, Hummingbirds of the World, 1979

$960per set

About

On offer is a set of 12 hand painted cups and saucers made in Bavaria (Germany) in 1979 for the Franklin Mint in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund. The set is called "Hummingbirds of the World". The Franklin Mint was an American brand that produced collectors' items, mostly coins but also porcelain and diecast objects. This particular series was a private issue of the World Wildlife Fund. Each cup shows a different species of humming bird with a flowers, and the saucers have the matching flowers. Each set has the Latin name of the bird species on them, as well as the name of the artist, Robin Hin. The cups could be used for either coffee or tea; they are just tall enough for coffee but wide enough for tea. These collectors' items were very popular in the second half of the 20th century and this series would have been brought out as a fundraiser for the World Wildlife Fund, which at the time was the main global non-profit involved in nature conservation. Condition report: All cups and saucers are in perfect and unused condition. Dimensions: The cups stand 6.5cm (2.5") tall and are 7.5cm (3") in diameter, the saucers are 13.5cm (5.5") in diameter.
