Egyptian Ptolemaic Period Mummified Stoneware Shabti Figure

About the Item

A rare and unusual large sized Egyptian mummified Shabti figure dating from the Ptolemaic Dynasty 305-30BC or possibly earlier. The stone figure is carved in a lying position with worn carved detail to the face and wears a tripartite wig. The figure has been mummified and is wrapped in a hessian woven cloth which is deteriorating due to age. It is possible to make out the outline of the body through the hessian and is lying out-stretched and is resting its hands on its chest. There are some green tones coming through to the back of the figure. While strands of the hessian are loose the lower body is thickly and firmly wrapped with probably burial residue. Provenance: Acquired from the British Art Market. In good original condition with wear and loss due to age.

  • Egyptian Antique Bronze Seated Statue of Harpokrates
    Located in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire
An interesting and unusual Egyptian bronze seated figure portraying the youthful god Harpokrates (Horus the child). The figure sits unclothed with legs bent and both arms resting by his sides. His face is indistinctly molded with a wide nose and with a sidelock of hair. He wears a Pschent crown. The figure, which is removable, has a later carved and fitted oak throne. The figure has an all over black patina. The figure does have some antique age although may be an Egyptian revival piece and would benefit from further research. We are therefore offering this as a later example and priced accordingly. Harpokrates was one of the most popular deities in the Egyptian pantheon. He was the offspring...
