Antique Navajo Chiefs Blanket, Third Phase Variant Style, 19th Century

About

A Navajo chief's blanket in a variant of a third phase pattern with a nine-point pattern of serrated diamonds in red, orange and yellow with blue accents against a Classic banded background of ivory and brown/black. From the Transitional period of American Indian art (circa 1875-1900). This textile is best suited for use as a wall hanging (tapestry) or as a bed covering or furniture throw. Ex collection: Mary Cabot Wheelwright The piece had been part of wheelwright’s collection at Los Luceros in Alcalde, New Mexico and was acquired by the current owners from Monica Collier in 1983. Monica’s parents' bought the Los Luceros estate. Monicas’s uncle was John Collier who was the Commissioner of Indian affairs from 1933-1945 Authenticity is guaranteed.
