American Antique Folk Art Flying Eagles Heraldic Trunk, 1900
About the Item
From an old New England collection.
An elaborate antique american folk art pyrography wood trunk. This highly detailed suitcase is hand crafted of wood and brass - the wood has been burned, carved & painted with American heraldic symbols including bald eagles holding american flags and shields, with one side having a collaged oval photographic portrait of a mustached man dressed in Edwardian style. It's high quality handle is fashioned from wood and brass hardware along with its hinges, corners, handle and latch.
A unique and attractive one-of-a-kind antique folk art work of art circa 1900
An all original work of art it is finely hand incised and hand stained using a pyrographic technique. The resulting warm honey brown color of its finish enhances its desirability.
The craftsmanship and details are superb.
Dimensions: 16.5 inches high and 26.5 inches wide and 9.5 inches depth

History of the Pyrography:
py·rog·ra·phy, a noun, is the art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point. Pyrography was particular popular in America and Europe during the last quarter of the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century.
