About the Item

This enigmatic shop sign was produced in France, circa 1900. A large zinc wall decoration hanging on a small chain, which may or may not be a piep, features a jug extremity with a long hollow handle. The chalky zinc has patinated in a rich burnt umber tone, enhancing the dented relief of the gritty surface. Shaped with the blacksmith savoir-faire, the forged metal exhibits a darker interior. An original find, this mysterious piece stands with the poise and grace of age-old craftsmanship.
