Asmat Tribe Handled Drum New Guinea

About the Item

Sculptural Dance Drum hand-carved by the Asmat Tribe Papua, New Guinea. The fine Hourglass form Drum with handle on one side and flange on the other with traditional incised Mask designs and painted with mineral and vegetable paints. The drum is missing the lizard skin end covers. Dimensions: 24.25” high by 7.25” wide by 5.5” deep. Condition: Please see detail photos. Various expected and acceptable signs of age include scuffs and finish losses as well some stable age splits and the missing skin heads which do not detract from the powerful and sculptural presentation.
