1960s Toni Zuccheri Attributable Large Space Age Murano Art Glass Pendant Lamp

About the Item

Fascinating and rare large vintage Toni Zuccheri attributable Space Age Murano art glass pendant lamp from the 1960s/70s. The hand-blown glass shade is transparent with a fine 'Pulegoso' workmanship and an irregular yellow/orange and dark green glass chain band arranged around its entire circumference. The frame and chain are made of chrome-plated metal. A constant feature of this period was the use of chains with an unusual appearance: again, it has an exceptional shape, see measurements. There is no trademark on the lamp, but the colours and the particular type of glasswork can be attributed to Toni Zuccheri's design. About the 'pulegoso' glass, as it is called in Murano glassworks, is characterised by countless minute, irregular air bubbles (in Venetian = 'pulighe') within the glass mass, which deliberately limit its transparency. It is obtained by a technique that was widely used in the 1920s, adding substances such as petrol in order to produce a boiling effect on the molten glass.
