Angelo Lelii "Tre Lune" Ceiling Lamp for Arredoluce, 1961

About the Item

Angelo Lelii "Tre Lune" ceiling lamp for Arredoluce, glass and brass, Italy, 1961 Designed in 1961 by Angelo Lelii for Arredoluce, the “3 Lune” ceiling lamp embodies the designer’s pursuit of celestial balance through essential form. From a central polished brass column, three staggered arms extend radially, each terminating in a semi-spherical opaline glass diffuser. The globes—gently flattened to diffuse light—convey an architectural softness while anchoring the composition. The arms form a triangular constellation in space, creating a suspended geometry that recalls Lelii’s interest in spatial equilibrium rather than symmetry. The structure detaches from the ceiling with vertical elegance: each linear extension appears both precise and weightless, articulating the lamp’s sculptural presence. Finished in lacquered metal and brass, the lamp is dimmable via phase-cut, functioning both as ambient lighting and formal composition. The “3 Lune” reflects a distillation of Lelii’s core themes: not merely a decorative object, but a spatial instrument—a point of orientation within the domestic cosmos. This piece was conceived during Arredoluce’s most innovative years, a period when the brand—founded by Lelii in Monza in 1943—collaborated with some of the most influential minds of Italian design, including Gio Ponti, Ettore Sottsass Jr., Nanda Vigo, and Vico Magistretti. Unlike the playful modularity of the Castiglioni brothers, Lelii's work retained a metaphysical dimension: his lamps are not static fixtures but orbits, traces of imaginary movement, constellations rendered in brass and glass.
