Pendant Lamp Kappa by Sergio Mazza for Artemide, Italy - 1960s

About the Item

H 85 cm W 45 cm D 45 cm Material: nickel-plated brass, reflector top frosted milk glass, 3 burners E 27, reflector bottom pressed glass, frosted inside, one burner E 27. Condition: good original condition Special features: few signs of use. The rare pendant lamp was rewired by our electrician. Thanks to the 4 burners, the lamp brings a lot of light into the room, with the star-shaped pressed reflector at the bottom achieving a downward focus. About this object: This minimalist luminaire model from Artemide's Milan factory is extremely rare. Sergio Mazza, the company co-founder, designed the KAPPA lamp in 1960. The frosted frosted glass surface emits a particularly soft light. The star-shaped embossed and frosted glass reflector at the bottom provides good diffusion and a high-quality appearance. An individual and unmistakable luminaire, predestined for above the dining table or as room lighting.

Sergio Mazza is an Italian designer born in 1931 in Milan. In 1955 he began his free profession and since 1961 he has been working alongside G. Gramigna in the Smc studio, working in the furniture and industrial design fields. Among the various acknowledgments and prizes received, we recall the mention at the Compasso d'Oro 1960 for the Delta lamp by Artemide and the silver medal for the Italian apartment at the X Triennale in Milan. From 1967 he also began to design for Olivari, signing the Macco handles, up to the Giuliana model, with Gramigna, in 1987. In the publishing field, again with Gramigna, he directed the "Ottagono" magazine from its foundation until 1988. Artemide is a company specialized in the production of lighting accessories (lamps, chandeliers, light points), founded by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza in 1959. The brand has been characterized since the beginning by a great attention to the design that has allowed over the years to win numerous international awards for its products. Among the most prestigious names in Italian design, Artemide is also one of the world's leading companies in high-end residential and professional lighting. Already in 1967 he received his first prize the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for the Eclisse lamp, designed by Vico Magistretti. This award is followed by many others, nationally and internationally, making Artemide one of the symbolic companies in the design lamp sector. In 1996 Artemide made its own a new manifesto, in which it still identifies itself today: with the motto "The Human Light...
