Motoko Ishii Chrome Sputnik for Lightolier

About the Item

From the Space Crystal collection designed by Motoko Ishii, the multi-award winning savant of architectural lighting, created in 1972 for West German firm Staff Leuchten.. This UL certified hefty chrome plated sputnik chandelier was produced circa 1974 by the Custom Division of Lightolier, Los Angeles, headed up by Sydney C. Dorner. It has 28 arms/lights/globes plus a 20 inch chromed tube stem then another 36 inches of chrome chain as well as its original chrome ceiling canopy complete with original label. Fixture itself has a diameter of 23 inches. Total drop including stem and chain is 72 inches. Drop with just the chrome tubular stem but excluding the chain is 36 inches. Of course we can adapt the length to whatever you require. Extremely clean condition with bright shiny chrome and all globes in tact. Shown with 15 watt bulbs for total output of 420 watts.   Motoko Ishii's patented design element were the unique 5.5 inch diameter glass globes with a threaded chrome base resembling an oversized Edison socket. These globes then fit over the tubular incandescent lightbulbs and screw into the chrome plated cast metal socket cups which are internally threaded. Originally these globes were available in clear, half-silvered or white opal and the collection included multiple fixture designs and styles.
