----------- Rare Floral Suspension in "Latimo" and "Pulegoso" Blown Glass (circa 1932-1934) Type: Floral suspension in blown glass Creation Date: Circa 1932-1934 Dimensions: Diameter: 70 cm Features: Composed of a central basin and sixteen palm leaves Condition: Perfect state Bibliography: Several variants are reproduced in the monograph dedicated to Tomaso Buzzi (see images). Description : This rare floral suspension in blown glass combines the "latimo" and "pulegoso" techniques, giving the piece an ethereal and luminous effect. Composed of a central basin and sixteen palm leaves, it embodies the elegance and innovation of 1930s Murano glass design. Biography of Tomaso Buzzi (1900-1981): After obtaining his architecture degree from the former Regio Istituto Tecnico Superiore, now the Polytechnic University of Milan, Tomaso Buzzi joined "Il Labirinto" in 1927, an association promoting modern figurative arts in Italy. Often seen as Italy’s answer to the Wiener Werkstätte, this group included key figures such as Paolo Venini, Michele Marelli, Gio Ponti, Carla Visconti di Modrone, Emilio Lancia, and Pietro Chiesa. During the 1920s and 1930s, particularly in the Art Deco period, Buzzi was a renowned designer, favored by Milan’s elite bourgeoisie. In 1932, following Napoleone Martinuzzi’s departure from Venini, Tomaso Buzzi became the artistic director of the famous glassworks. He designed a series of classically shaped vases, refining traditional Murano techniques. His deep exploration of lighting design and passion for experimentation led to major innovations in Murano glass lighting fixtures.

Barovier et Toso Attributed, 14 Pulegoso Leaves Reticello Bowl, 1940s, Murano
By Barovier&Toso
Located in Tavarnelle val di Pesa, Florence
Sculptural chandelier with a unique combination of reticello and Pulegoso finis. The reticello bowl what indicates the decade. It's made by overlapping two filigree bowls spiralizer in opposite directions. Before Carlo Scarpa and Dino Martens works in the 1940s, reticello was made without bubbles in the middle of each square of clear glass resulting by the nesting. It's simply because it was considered a flaw to see the bubbles. On the next decade, the overlapping was done on the Piera as the bubble trapped by the canes was then considered a plus. The 14 leaves have a central striped clear stem and the feathers are made in Pulegoso. My friend Sergio Rossi, master of Murano, when he saw the picture said "the times when Pulegoso was made in the Crucible". Full batch of Pulegoso was made by Barovier for the lighting and Venini or Seguso for accessories. The Pulegoso finish, from puleghe (chips, the chemical dust that is added to create an infinitive number of bubbles inside the glass mass) is a signature of the Barovier chandelier. Reticello has white filigree...
