Rare France Limoges Porcelain / Bronze Bathroom Set Mirror Pendant Washbasin Etc
Located in Lisse, NL
Highly decorative porcelain bathroom set with stunning roses pattern, by one of Europe's finest. Over the years we have sold very few porcelain Limoges pieces and that is simply because these high value items don't find there way to the open market very often. So to have been given the opportunity to purchase a set as complete and remarkable as the one we are offering you here, more than made our day. Also, because we already know that someone will be thrilled to be able to own, use and enjoy this rare and beautiful set in their (new) home or, for example, in their holiday home. This vintage Limoges set of high quality and detail consists of the following: - A practical size washbasin with gilt bronze mythological dolphin handles. - Large mirror in stylish bronze frame with a mounted (or built-in) 4-light sconce. - A porcelain shelf (for wall mounting) to go under the mirror. - A bronze and porcelain, 4 light pendant light. - A shell design porcelain and bronze soap holder (for wall mounting). - A toilet paper holder with some damage (we therefor listed this set as a five-piece set). For this rare set of six we will create three listings so that we are able to show you enough of the beautiful and stylish details per item. This listing is focussed on the rare and large size brass and bronze mirror with the built-in sconce. An Interesting Early 20th Century Gilt Bronze and Crystal “Grotesque” Chandelier
Located in Long Island City, NY
An Interesting Early 20th Century Gilt Bronze and Crystal Twenty Six Light “Grotesque” Chandelier A unique Gothic Style, drop crystal, basket chandelier with different “Grotesque” faces and designs. Twenty four tiered perimeter lights (including 6 lanterns) and two tiered interior lights. Artists began to give the tiny faces of the figures in grotesque decorations strange caricatured expressions, in a direct continuation of the medieval traditions of the drolleries in the border decorations or initials in illuminated manuscripts. From this the term began to be applied to larger caricatures, such as those of Leonardo da Vinci, and the modern sense began to develop. It is first recorded in English in 1646 from Sir Thomas Browne: “In nature there are no grotesques”. By extension backwards in time, the term became also used for the medieval originals, and in modern terminology medieval drolleries, half-human thumbnail vignettes drawn in the margins, and carved figures on buildings (that are not also waterspouts, and so gargoyles) are also called “grotesques”. A boom in the production of works of art in the grotesque genre, characterized the period 1920–1933 of German art. In contemporary illustration art, the “grotesque” figures, in the ordinary conversational sense, commonly appear in the genre grotesque art...

Pair of French Maison Baguès Foliage Crystal Three Arm Wall Sconces, Circa 1890
Located in Charleston, SC
Pair of French Maison Baguès three-arm crystal wall sconces with upper and central floral medallions, bead work, leaf foliage and crystal cup bobeches. Sconces were originally candle powered and have been electrified, Late 19th Century. Since its establishment in 1860, the Maison Baguès has been an emblem of French sophistication in luxury lighting design. Each piece the firm makes is hand assembled using traditional techniques, in order to emphasize the elegance and excellence of their detailed artisanal work. Still the epitome of savoir-faire, Maison Baguès’ luxurious pieces are prized for their craftsmanship, beauty and harmony. The master metal smith Noël Baguès founded the company as specialists in liturgical bronzes, but by 1880 the company had expanded into the production of bronze light fixtures in response to the development of electrical lighting. Carried on by Noël’s son Eugène and grandsons Victor and Robert, Maison Baguès continued to progress, adding intricately detailed iron lighting collections in the 1920s as well as stair banisters...
