21th Century Ugo La Pietra Floor Lamp mod. Arcangeli Metropolitani for Lumen

About the Item

Italian architect, artist, designer and theorist born in 1938, Ugo La Pietra was active since 60s in research for the definition of balanced relationships between man and the environment, he founded and was a member of avant-garde groups such as Cenobio, Radical Design and Global Tools. In these areas of investigation he has organized numerous exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including many solo shows, transferring the main theoretical reflections into important writings. In addition to his intense teaching activities, in 1980 he became editor of Domus magazine. He has received numerous prizes and awards including the Compasso d'oro in 1979. As a designer, numerous are his collaborations with Italian companies. Here we have a very peculiar floor lamp first designed by Ugo La Pietra in 1977 and produced again in 2007 by Lumen Center Edizioni. This lamp belongs to the "Arcangeli Metropolitani" series and is made in painted iron structure and hand-painted plexiglass wings. Original brandmark as shown in photos. Good condition, fully original. The light system can be rewired to US standards upon request. We recommend a wooden crate for shipping to prevent damage.

Kazuhide Takahama studied architecture at university in Tokyo from 1949, taking his degree in 1953. He's, however, primarily known as a furniture and lighting designer. Kazuhide Takahama met furniture-maker Dino Gavina in Milan in 1957 and remained in Italy to design for Gavina's firm. He often combines traditional forms and techniques with Western elements in his designs. Other collaborations worthy of mention are the one with the furniture giant B&B Italia or with lighting brands such as Sirrah and Nemo. He too worked a lot as an architect, especially in Bologna, where he created the facade of the city airport and all the bus shelters...
