About the Item

Bina’ means ‘Dance’ in Congolese Tshiluba. Tshiluba is one of the languages alongside three other native languages spoken in the DCR. The chair is made out of teak, the back of handwoven raffia rope and its weight is held by a river rock stone. Even though the chair would perfectly hold without the stone, I was inclined to play with the concept and appearance of balance. This is the first piece I designed for the Kasai series. "Kim Mupangilaï is a Belgian-Congolese, New York based Interior Architect and Designer. Inspired by her own heritage and roots, Kim's work is reflective of merging cultures. She aims to bring a unique perspective and insight that encourages fresh discourse within the design world and beyond.
