About the Item

Ignazio Gardella “LTE8” Floor Lamp for Azucena, Brass Marble and Glass, Italy, 1956. Ignazio Gardella’s “LTE 8” floor lamp, designed in 1956 and manufactured by Azucena, is constructed from white marble, black lacquered metal, and frosted glass, the lamp reflects Gardella’s architectural precision and modernist ethos. The lamp’s marble tripod base ensures stability while presenting a sculptural presence, grounding the design with its natural weight and texture. The slender, black-lacquered metal stem rises seamlessly, free of visible fastenings, emphasizing simplicity and structural clarity. It culminates in a frosted glass reflector, supported by three harp-style holders that echo the geometric interplay of the base. A discreet metal cap with a functional handle tops the bulb, further reinforcing the design’s thoughtful symmetry and attention to details. This piece reflects Gardella’s commitment to reducing design to its functional core while achieving elegance through material interplay and subtle detailing. Decorative excess is eschewed in favor of harmony and clarity, allowing the materials and form to speak for themselves. Ignazio Gardella, a pivotal figure in 20th-century Italian design, began his career in architecture before transitioning to industrial design in 1947, founding the renowned Azucena company alongside Luigi Caccia Dominioni. His works extended across furniture, lighting, and architecture, always emphasizing utility and spatial efficiency. Our in-house atelier in Italy carefully double-checks each piece.
