Japan, a fine big plump and old hand cast winged creature masterfully crafted in bronze into a realistic two part owl with fine wing, head, eye, ear, and feet details.
Gold gilt finish.
Notice the especially fine head and hair details.
Dimensions: 5 inches tall and 4 inches diameter, two parts.
Signature on display plaque and box.
Provenance: Private Otsu collection
The Japanese name for owl is Fukuro which can be written with a meaning of Luck to come and the other as protection from hardship kurou suffering/hardship). Owls have become lucky symbols in Japanese culture- and seen in gardens and homes.

The two komainu, or guardian lions, are portrayed seated upon their haunches, heads slightly turned. The two beasts are well carved, with wonderful musculature, flowing manes, and bushy tails.
