18th Century Lion Head Wall Lamp with 3 Lights in Gilted Bronze

About the Item

Like many animal motifs, the lion was highly prized by eighteenth-century ornamentalists. It can be found in a light arm by Pierre Thomire dating from 1788 and preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, or in one by Louis Gabriel Feloix, dating from the same year and preserved in the Wallace Collection. Topped by a lion's head whose mane spreads over the sconce, this model is composed of a chased bronze cartouche ending with rocaille ornaments. Three arms of light rise from the center of the cartouche, emerging from a leaf of palmettes, punctuated by a cup placed on a flower, carrying the bobèche. The whole, in gilded bronze, mixes neo-classical symmetry and rocaille ornaments, in a synthesis of the Louis XV style. We have one pair in stock however we can produce them made to measure and in other finishes such as 24k gold, silver, nickel, black nickel (our any bespoke finish). Our Company may also customize sizes or make any modifications on original design.

19th Century Wien Wall Lamp with 7 Lights in Antique Bronze and Crystal
By OMBRES ET FACETTES, Josef Hoffmann
Located in SAINT-OUEN-SUR-SEINE, FR
This wall lamp is inspired by a chandelier model of Josef Hoffmann (architect and designer member of the Viennese Secession). Indeed, the lower part of the sconce, composed of three palm leaves adorned with drops, is close to that of the Austrian architect’s successful model. However, the composition is more complex than its original. A light plate, whose ornaments recall the eighteenth century, completes the stage of palms, itself topped by a shell. The latter opens on three floors in half-crown, decorated with drops. These crowns are reminiscent of the chandeliers of Central European countries (one thinks of the chandelier of Werner and Mieth in the Russian taste, dating from the nineteenth century and preserved in the Mathieu Museum), as well as the edges of the shell take the form of lava flow. Skillfully mixing these three parts, this wall lamp offers a very soft light, thanks to the crystal drops acting as a louver. We have one wall lamp...
