Pair of Vintage LP10 "Bidoni" Wall Lamps by Luigi Caccia Dominioni for Azucena

About the Item

Luigi Caccia Dominioni is perhaps the most important architect in post-WW2 Milano. His projects had a vast impact the reconstruction of the devastated city, while also paving the way for the new style that woul be defined by historians and critics "Milanese rationalism". But besides being a prolific architect, author of some of the most celebrated residential buildings in town, he also worked extensively as a designer, working on lighting and furniture. In 1947, together with fellow designers Ignazio Gardella and Corrado Corradi dell'Acqua, he founded Azucena. The brand, named after a flower, was active for many years in the field of high-end design for residential and contract projects. After a stop of several years, Azucena has now been revived, and continues to produce the pieces for which it became known in the past; however, it's original pieces that still drive collectors mad at auction and on the vintage market. The present pair of LP10 lamps, nicknamed "Bidoni" ("bins", for their shape resembles a milkman's bin), is indeed part of the early production as details - and patina - suggest. The glass shades are likely original, and however are exactly matching the originals in shape, length and diameter. The lamps are fully functional, and have recently been revired by a professional electrician to ensure safety during use.

  • Vintage Space Age Wall/Ceiling Lamp, Italian Design, Chrome Metal Blades
    Located in Milano, IT
The Space Age Era, or Atomic Age, has been a very prolific couple of decades for design worldwide. Italy was no exceptions, with designers the likes of Joe Colombo, Goffredo Reggiani and Anna Castelli Ferrieri creating some timeless icons of which many are still produced to these days. But it wasn't all about resounding names: also lesser known designers created interesting pieces, often with a very personal and recognisable style. Amongst these certainly stands out Enrico Tronconi, whose area of interest was lighting design: he created several different pieces ranging from ceiling lamps and sconces to floor and table lamps. Most of them feature metal blades that resemble rocket propellers or air-cooled car engines. The present sconce, measuring 30cm in diameter, has indeed two wide blades painted in ochre and three smaller ones highlighted by a chrome coating. It is preserved in good conditions and only has minor signs of use; it's a stunning piece both when lit and when off. It is hardwired (220V standard) and has recently been rewired by a certified electrician. For more vintage Italian furniture...
