About the Item

This Japanese Export porcelain charger is singular and speaks for itself in a beautiful palette of soft orange, blue and white. It is remimiscent of Imari, but the appraisers say it is from a 17th or 18th century kiln in Arita Japan. The colors are vibrant and clear, and there are no chips or other damage to this beautiful piece. Arita ware describes much of the Japanese export porcelain that was produced in that area beginning in the 16th and 17th century. The first porcelain made there came after the discovery of clay in the area during the 16th century. A Korean potter is often credited with creating Arita ware though there is disagreement among historians. The charger measures 11 inches wide and 11 inches deep. The colors are stunning and bright for such an old piece. It appraised at $600, pre-inflation. We will not see this again.
