"Cashew" Lamp. Casted Aluminium and Glass.
About the Item
The "Cashew" Lamp is a sculptural lamp that is custom made for every single client, not being two identical pieces. The process of creation starts with a conversation with the client to understand the size and shape needed. Taller and more slender pieces, wider lower ones, larger or smaller. It is important that each "Cashew" takes from the clients personality and needs and that they constitute a family of unique pieces with one-off characters.
Later on, an sculpted model in clay or foam will be created and photographed to confirm the final shape. In case the client has a flexible need, a proposed piece will be sculpted based on a sketch. Later, a sand-cast will be made out of its wax replica and then filled with liquid aluminium. This all-manual foundry process copies an age-old technique that has been keep in the rural areas of Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. The glass piece crowning this lamp is usually the same one for most pieces unless requested otherwise. This piece is blown in glass over a plaster cast and then shaped while warm. Then it is sanded and projected with different additives that create unique organic patterns on its surface.

Jorge Suárez-Kilzi is an architect with a wide international experience in Switzerland, Spain, Korea, Sweden and Japan. Worked for Architectes Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa and Junya Ishigami at their Tokyo offices. After several years of freelancing as a creative support to other architecture offices, has launched this solo project centred in creating playful and timeless designs that breath elegance and sobriety. Our first produced items were three porcelain jugs and two fibreglass and steel lamps. We expect the family to grow extensively and are open to any requests and preorders on our ongoing designs.
These pieces are made upon request and the casted aluminium shape is sketched together with the client or proposed to them.
