About the Item

This copper arts and crafts lamps was produced in England or America during the early part of the 20th century according to our appraiser. This lamp is beautiful with its barrel shape and hammered surface. It reflects the Stickley style, I believe, with its dual patinas. The underside of the lamp has a rich copper-red patina, while the upper surface of the piece has developed a darker ruddy finish. The lamp is in very good condition. It retains old solder repairs. American style arts and crafts was inspired during the Victorian age at the end of the 19th century. Arts and Crafts reflected a desire on the part of designers to counterbalance the industrial age by emphasizing quality. It is of circular section and bulbous body with tall cylindrical neck with scrolled iron S-curve double handles, surmounted by a cylindrical cream-colored fabric shade, that is not included. The handles are twisted or turned iron, and that ends even more "personality" to this unusual lamp. The details include rivets and the general shape suggests that perhaps this was a vessel at one time for carrying water--although there is no spout. A wonderful functional and whimsical piece.
