About the Item

An exceptionally rare, signed Conrad Fehn Amsterdam School desk lamp - identical to the example featured in the famous reference work 'Living in the Amsterdam School' (see in the video) This book comes with the lamp. This striking design, with its lavish textile fringe, is said to have been inspired by carnivorous plants, particularly the Venus Flytrap. The influence is evident in the lamp’s organic yet dramatic silhouette: a bold arched stem in hand-worked copper, riveted details, and a shade with fluid, irregular edging from which the fringe drapes like botanical tendrils. This is a surprisingly large and heavy lamp, with excellent stability. The patina of the copper speaks to a century of careful preservation, while the vivid fringe adds a warm glow when lit. It harmonizes beautifully with other Amsterdam School furnishings, yet also stands as a captivating centerpiece in eclectic, contemporary interiors. An out of the box choice for the more daring! The lamp operates with a single E27 lightbulb and is fitted with a standard European plug. Wiring was replaced recently and in perfect working order. About the Amsterdam School: The Amsterdam School was a Dutch architectural and design movement flourishing between 1910 and 1940, characterized by expressionist forms, sculptural details, and exceptional craftsmanship. Its influence extended beyond architecture into furniture, lighting, and decorative arts, creating a distinct and enduring style that remains highly recognizable and sought after worldwide. Stamped on back of the base: CONRAD FEHN / HAARLEM

Modular Typ 505 lamp by Curt Fischer for Midgard, 1960s
By Midgard, Curt Fischer
Located in EVERDINGEN, NL
A TYP 505 wall mounted lamp, based on the iconic TYP 113. This modular lamp was produced with 3 different arm lengths, 3 types of (rotating) lampshades and a choice in type of joints. The lamp is in good condition, rewired and all parts working and rotating. The original lightswitch is also still present and working. Curt Fischer is well known for his innovative designs and still regarded as one of the greatest 20th-century inventors. At the time, just after WW1, recovering from the war, people worked long hours until late in the evening. The then-typical lamps would only cast light from the ceiling, causing the shadow of the worker’s body and head to cast shades over their projects. For an inventor like Curt Fischer, who had transformed horse-drawn coaches into mobile radio...
