About the Item

An exquisite table lamp designed by Jerk Werkmäster circa 1940 for the Swedish ceramics studio Nittsjö. The base is crafted from cream-glazed earthenware and features a delicate floral relief decor. The lamp is fitted with a brass lamp holder that includes an integrated light switch for practicality. The matching lampshade is upholstered in Strawberry Thief textile by William Morris. The lamp is signed on the underside. Swedish artist, ceramicist, and designer Erik 'Jerk' Werkmäster (1896–1978) studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Stockholm during the 1910s before being commissioned to execute the decorations for the iconic 1923 Gothenburg Exhibition. In 1933, he was appointed artistic director of the ceramics manufacturer Nittsjö, a position he held for over 30 years. In parallel, he also designed lighting fixtures for Arvid Böhlmarks Lampfabrik.
