About the Item

Maison Jansen palm table lamp, large and very rare, from the 1960s/70s, with two light points. The hand-cut palms and the stem are made of overlapping brass sheets. Of fantastic proportions and superb quality, a wonderful piece of interior design from the turn of the last century. Maison Jansen was a Paris-based interior design office founded in 1880 by the Dutchman Jean-Henri Jansen. Jansen is considered the first truly global design firm, with clients in Europe, Latin America, North America and the Middle East. Throughout its history, the company has employed a traditional style based on European design, but the influence of contemporary trends such as Vienna Secession, Art Nouveau and Art Deco has also appeared in Jansen's interiors and in much of the bespoke furniture the company produced between 1920 and 1950. Under Boudin's direction, Maison Jansen served the royal families of Belgium, Iran and Serbia, as well as Elsie de Wolfe and Lady Olive Baillie's Leeds Castle in Kent, England. The firm's most published work was a project by Boudin and Paul Manno, head of Jansen's New York office, for the US White House during the administration of John F. Kennedy. At the same time, Jansen completed the interior of the motor yacht Chambel IV, now renamed Northwind II. Northwind II is one of Jansen's few remaining complete commissions.
