Pr. George III Gilt Carton-Pierre and Giltwood Oval Mirrors, Manner John Linnell
Located in New York, NY
A fantastic and extremely rare pair of George III period gilt Carton-Pierre and giltwood oval mirrors in the manner of John Linnell. Each mirror is gorgeously hand carved with meticulous detail and fine craftsmanship. The giltwood borders are designed with foliate crests above female masks, with aprons centered by a standing or recumbent left facing lamb. It is extremely rare to find a pair of mirrors of this date and in such amazing untouched condition, the mirror panels are most probably original and date to the late 1700s. Provenance: Jeremy, Ltd., London England, circa 1770 Carton-pierre, literal translation from the French - cardboard stone, was developed in the 18th century specifically to imitate wood and stone. The Formula typically included flour, chalk, sawdust, sand and plaster and bound with wax, resin, animal glues or gum arabic. The material could be moulded, bent and otherwise formed into the desired design. Preeminent makers like Gillows and John Linnell began using carton pierre in the late 1760s. The new material allowed for lacey decorative spandrels and festoons that could be made into nearly any length or shape required. These elements and the particular foliate umbrella canopy on this pair of mirrors relates to designs of William and John Linnell. The most famous example of this crest element is on the mirror supplied by Linnell to the 4th Duke of Beaufort for the State Bedroom at Badminton House...

18th Century Parisian Giltwood Barometer Thermometer
Located in Dallas, TX
This lovely giltwood barometer and thermometer was hand-carved during the Louis XVI period in Paris, France. During the late 1700’s, barometers were typically only owned by wealthy families. Over time, barometers began to be viewed as works of art and could be found in middle class homes throughout Europe. The highly detailed crown of our apparatus depicts a footed vase bursting with a floral display. The garland trails down in an arch shape until it reaches an angular platform adorned with molding and vertical fluting. The flowered swag continues behind the platform, transitioning into a pair of gadrooned leaves. Each gadrooned leaf terminates in a husked cornucopia overflowing with laurel leaves. A large circular barometer dial is positioned in between the cornucopias. Under the barometer is a looping lambrequin that borders the top half of the thermometer. A pair of gadrooned leaves runs behind and through the lambrequin, flanking the lower half of the thermometer. A fluted base beneath the thermometer sits in a gadrooned cup. The detail of the carvings on this late 18th century Parisian...

18th Century, Venetian Baroque Carved Giltwood Mirror
Located in IT
18th Century, Venetian Baroque Carved Giltwood mirror This mirror was made in Venice, Italy, in the second half of the 18th century. The frame, in carved and gilded wood, has the characteristics of the Venetian baroque. The internal wooden band, with 90-degree angles in the lower portion and with a cambered and curvilinear profile in the upper part, is carved in vegetable-shaped bas-reliefs. At the top a rich cymatium encloses another mirror. Rich perforated volutes, rocaille and phytomorphic elements, create movement to the whole and streamline the mirror making it graceful. To crown, there is a floral element. Also, below the frame includes a small mirror, while on the sides continue the friezes carved with flowers, leaves and scrolls rocaille. This small mirror, very refined and of great decorative effect, can be easily placed in different environments, placed over consoles or antique drawers...

Georgian Irish Cordial Wine Drinking Glass thick Cotton Twist Stem, Ca 1770
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a superb hand-blown example of an Irish made, mid-Georgian, cordial wine drinking glass with a thick double series opaque twist (DSOT) stem, dating from the middle of the 18th century, circa 1765 to 1770. These glasses are very collectable. It is made from English lead glass which is relatively heavy and has a soft grey colour, with slight age related wear as expected with over 200 years of use. The glass has the usual striations, inclusions and tiny bubbles you would expect to see in 18th Century glass, which gives these glasses their unique charm. This glass has a bucket bowl which sits on a tall, unusually thick, double series opaque or cotton twist...
