About the Item

Immerse yourself in the grandeur of this stunning antique French 19th Century Louis Philippe style gold gilt mirror. The thickly decorated frame boasts intricate leaf and flower ornaments at both the upper and bottom corners, accentuated by pearl beading along the interior perimeter. This beautiful antique French gold gilt mirror has the typical rounded upper corners that make it a Louis Philippe mirror. The mirror contains the original wooden back cladding, enriched with historical significance, bearing the stamp of its maker, Glaces & Tapis, Rue Saint Etienne 12, Toulouse, circa 1850. The mirror frame is structurally healthy and the mirror has its original mirror plate which is slightly foxed. The original gilt finish of the frame is nicely worn, giving it great character. There are some minor imperfections to the frame, as would be expected with a piece of this age and usage, but this does not in any way detract from its charm. This mirror comes with a unique narrative. In many cases we don't know who the previous owners of the mirrors are. With this mirror we do know! As we collected the mirror ourselves from a wonderful maison close to Carcassonne in the South of France, that we always call "the pink house." It is not often to know the exact history of a mirror and to find such a wonderfully well-preserved example, a rare gem with a known and cherished past. We have made every effort to display colours accurately, but cannot guarantee that the pictures accurately reflect the colour of those goods in real life.
