Very Fine Regency Mirror With Eglomise Panel, Circa:1800
About the Item
Vertical mirrors such as this one give real presence to any space lucky enough to have them. They are especially effective in foyers, living and dining rooms. This mirror's frame is hand made of finely carved, gilded, and gold leafed (on gesso) wood. Among other details, its design includes fluted pilasters with acanthus leaf capitals, 4 corner rosettes, an architectural crown, and foliate corbels alongside an upper églomisé panel. That panel, reverse painted on glass in gold and black, is hand-painted and finely depicts grillwork with a central foliate pattern. It appears to be original. The glass in the mirrored section is a beveled replacement from about 100 years ago.
