About the Item
A sensational and most rare Northern Italian 18th century Louis XVI Period patinated Wood and Giltwood Trumeau mirror and console. This stunning mirror and original console are raised by two square tapered legs with faux marble plinths and Giltwood foliate decorations within the recessed side panels. The legs are joined at the top center by a richly decorated central stretcher displaying a central reserve of a foliate spray while flanked by two outer panels with scrolled acanthus leaves. Each leg supports the front and side scrolled mounts with an elegantly carved Giltwood fish scale design. The apron above is finished with a beaded bottom trim and laurel top band surrounding its original fitted Brocatelle d'Espagne marble top. The mirror above is supported on a wonderfully detailed faux painted green marble plinth below the original mirror plate set within an inner beaded and Rais de Coeur trim. The mirror plate is flanked by vertical recessed panels to each side adorned with Giltwood rope and foliate garlands. The Trumeau top showcases a recessed patinated green panel accented with swaging Giltwood garlands suspended from rosettes. The panel is flanked by fluted Giltwood blocks fitted with chandelles, which support the impressive egg and dart designed top crown in a stunning satin and burnished finish.
