About the Item
An impressive and most elegant Italian 19th century Neo-Classical st. patinated Wood and Giltwood console and mirror. This exceptional console and original matching mirror are raised by a demi lune shaped base joined together at the center to two scrolled stretchers. At the center of the stretcher are two majestic swans flanking an urn like finial with Giltwood accents. The front of the console displays two columns on each end decorated by Giltwood spiraling grape vines. The back supports showcase rectangular panels with Rais de Coeur outer Giltwood borders, and a central tied wreath. The front apron is designed with a central medallion of two cherubs playing, with a top bow and bottom swaging garland. The medallion is flanked by a berried laurel wreath at each side with a bottom egg and dart trim and a top Rais de Coeur edge. Above is its original Sienna marble top set within a Giltwood foliate border. The stunning mirror with its original mirror plate raised on a patinated off-white plinth below scrolled foliate Giltwood mounts. At the center is the most elegant original mirror plate set within an intricately detailed Rais de Coeur border with Giltwood rosettes at each corner. Flanking the mirror plate are wonderfully detailed off white and Giltwood columns with elegant spiraling grape vines and circular bands. The columns lead up to a recessed panel with a fanciful swaging garland, reeded upper trim, and egg and dart bands. The top crown displays a palmette design all below the top central reserve showcasing a central oval medallion of a female profile, with an eternal flame and a quiver with arrows to each side, and leading to large scale ball finials. All original gilt and patina throughout.
