About the Item
19th c. French Régence style carved giltwood mirror. The rectangular giltwood frame-within-frame border on mirrored glass is of a charming scrollwork design, each corner with a gilt folate bracket.
The quality of the workmanship in this mirror is wonderful. There is life and dimension in the execution of the mirrored and giltwood double border. The foxing on the border mirror lends a very attractive patina.
Dimensions:
35"h x 29.5"w
Condition:
Good/Fair. There are scattered oxidation spots and silver loss to the mirrored border glass. The center glass is clean and therefore likely replaced. Recent minor damage has occurred to the upper righthand bracket applique. The pieces have been retained and could be professionally reattached (see photographs). Even without repair, this mirror is very attractive and ready to hang.

First half 20th century, Italy, a lovely giltwood mirror in the Louis XVI style. The mirror is in the form of a large flower basket with tied ribbon crest, the basket handle is entwined with an asymmetrical meandering vine. The mirror looks to be original. The back is wood paneled. The carving of a straight basket base would allow for use as an overmantel mirror.
