About the Item
Magnifique et exceptionnel miroir signé de Mithé Espelt, fait très rare pour cette céramiste, en terre estampée et émaillée d'un vert céladon en transparence sur un premier émail blanc.
Mithé Espelt est une céramiste qui a pu composer sa gamme de miroirs, de coffrets à bijoux, de bijoux ou encore de thermomètres durant des dizaines d'années sur la ville de Lunel en France. Cette artiste est morte à l'âge de 97 ans en 2020, quelques mois après l'édition d'une monographie qui lui était dédiée.
Ce miroir présente plusieurs particularités exceptionnelles sur son travail notamment l'apposition de sa signature à l'or. On a pu l'observer sur quelques pièces du quotidien comme un cadre photo, une tasse... Des objets réalisés avant que son atelier soit créé au 144 rue des Arts à Lunel.
La deuxième particularité, c'est l'usage d'une feutrine rouge qui ne recouvre pas l'entièreté du dos.
La troisième est la manière dont a ete monté le miroir avec sa glace biseautée.
Ce miroir a probablement été réalisé avant l'ouverture de son atelier et a une importance historique dans son travail.
Mithé Espelt ne signait pas ses miroirs, non pas que pour une question d'humilité, mais aussi pour une question de pratique: le gros volume de certains modèles et certains décors ne pouvaient pas se prêter à l'apposition d'une signature comme ceux au fond de peinture et non d'émail.
Ce miroir est d'une très belle taille 29,5 cm de haut, 28,5 cm de large et 3 cm d'épaisseur.
Un petit éclat au bas de la glace est à relever mais c'est invisible et ne porte pas atteinte à l'intégrité du miroir.
