Issey Miyake and Dai Fujiwara, A-Poc Making

About the Item

First edition, published by Vitra Design Museum, 2002. Published in conjunction with an exhibition held at Vitra Design Museum, Berlin, in 2001. A-POC is an acronym for “A Piece of Cloth”, also referring to the word ‘epoch’. This publication introduces the revolutionary and unique manufacturing method entitled, ‘A-POC’, that creates clothes using an Industrial weaving machine programmed by a computer that creates continuous tubes of fabric within which lie both shape and pattern. The concept is a revolutionary way of making clothing, accessories, and recently even furniture, allowing for the customer’s inputting incorporated into the final design and product. This book features various reproductions of clothing and designs made using this process. ‘I have endeavoured to experiment to make fundamental changes to the system of making clothes. Think: a thread goes into a machine that in turn, generated complete clothing using the latest computer technology and eliminates the usual needs for cutting and sewing the fabric.’ - Issey Miyake.
