About the Item

Set of six volumes, full Moroccan leather bindings. Annals of The Artists of Spain by Wm Stirling-Maxwell. London: John Nimmo, 1891. In four volumes. First Edition, thus. Numbered #178/265. Beautiful full Moroccan red leather-bound and gilt decorated hardcovers with embossed interior decoration, with a gilt top edge. Illustrated with 24 doubled (48) tissue guarded steel engravings and mezzotints with numerous wood engravings. There are two copies on heavy stock of each engraving, so one could be removed and framed and one left in the book so it remains complete. Addresses political importance of Spain during the 16th and 17th century and her greatness in art. With two matching volumes: "Cloister Life of the Emperor Charles V" and "Miscellaneous Essays and Addresses," published with The Annals of the Artists, and also numbered 178/250. Each page ruled with red borders. Gilt embossed emblems on the front and rear interior boards. These bindings are some of the best available. NPT Books a division of N.P.
